Cake Shoe Diaries Welcomes Natalie Schrier

The Sugar Cove is super uber pleased to welcome Natalie Schrier from Doodle Cakes in Cambridge, Ontario. Her children were the spring board that ignited her passion for sugar. Family....it's a beautiful thing. So readers get your cake shoes on to do some walkin’ with some serious cake style, as Natalie shares with us what ignited her passion for all things sugar.

What ignited your passion for sugar/cake?

I first discovered my fondness for all that is sweet through my four kids. It was important for me that they have special cakes for their birthdays and class parties. And the more I mixed and sculpted and baked, the more I wanted to keep on creating. and slowly, people started asking for my cakes!

What is your 'cake philosophy'?

"Everything is edible." My cakes are the real deal! Knowing they will be gobbled up, right to the last crumb, makes me very proud.

What joys/pitfalls have you encountered in your sugar career?

Being asked to submit a cake for the Cake Central Magazine was a HUGE joy. After taking only the Michael's cake decorating classes, I did not even expect to qualify. My family was so proud of me! It was also a huge honour to win first place in the Professional division at the Inspiration in Wonderland Cake contest held at Icing Inspirations. I did not see that one coming! Moreover, I was also featured twice on Cake Wreck's Sunday Sweets.

What keeps you motivated in the sugar world?

Again, I have my children to thank! It melts my heart to see how proud they are of my work. I love being the mom who causes a stir when I walk through the school doors holding a big white box in my hands!

  1. The pictures don't even do Natalie's cakes justice! She made me a surprise Nikon cake for my birthday last year that was beyond amazing. Looked just like my camera! Her artistic mind never stops and every creation is better than the last. And past all that? She's a fabulous person. Love her to pieces :)
