Sugar Flowers with Ron Ben Israel 2010

Just finished a 3 day sugar flower class at Flour Confections in Pickering, Ontario taught by the fabulous Ron Ben Israel! Having the opportunity to learn from Ron, was truly a dream come true. I've been a long time admirer of Ron's sugar floral work, so when I heard that Ron was coming to Canada to conduct a sugar flower class, I jumped at the chance to sign up....I am so glad that I did! The sugarpaste flower class covered the rose and peony in various stages of bloom, the calla lily, cattleya orchid and sweet pea....all beautiful flowers. I loved the fact that we got to learn and explore the rose and peony in its various stages of bloom, and that we did each flower more than once.

I reeeeeally appreciated having the time to make and complete each flower more than once, as the techniques learned not only further expanded my understanding of sugar flower work in general but gave me time to truly learn and grasp Ron's fabulous techniques. Ron truly wants you to learn and understand each flower and for that, I say a 1,000 gracias, merci's and תודה Ron!

It was 3 days of hard work, but is was also 3 days of invaluable learning as each day included a Q & A session with Ron. An array of topics were covered, everything from cake refrigeration, cake design and construction to cake delivery, client consultations, costing and marketing. What better way to learn than to have the opportunity to ask questions directly from Ron himself? I found this to be of immeasureable value as the class was able to benefit from Ron's experience, myself definitely included. Thank you Lisa Bugeja, owner for Flour Confections, for hosting Ron Ben Israel. You and your staff took great care of us and I look forward to Ron's next visit...especially the Southern Flowers class...hint, hint.

Ron and me...say cheese!
